Joshua Kirk has Duchene Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). This is muscular disease that is characterized by gradual degeneration of muscle tissue throughout the body. Most children with MDM lose the ability to walk sometimes between the ages of 7 and 12. Currently, Joshua can walk, run, and climb, as most 4 year olds can. He wears overnight braces on his lower legs, stretches daily, and takes prednisone in an effort to keep him walking for as long as possible. Joshua enjoys reading, drawing, painting and counting. His favorite activities are cooking, computer games and dramatized videos. He loves attending school and his favorite subjects are music and art. Joshua is full of love, energy and laughter. Joshua attends preschool at Central Special in Edgewater, MD and lives in Odenton with his parents Steve and Diane.
