SHOULD WE BOIL

Dear Dr.Bear,

This question is concerning my daughter. We have been supplementing her breastfeeding with formula for about 2 months now and I actually just heard about boiling the water that we use to make her bottles. Needless to say we have not been doing this and have been using our tap water. Should we be boiling the water? I have done some research and have found conflicting views on this subject. Thank you for your quick response.

Sincerely,
Boiling Point

Dear Boiling Point,

For the first 2 months of life, and particularly in the old days it was recommended that you use boiled water in order to introduce a lower volume of germs to the baby's system. Now w most folks will use bottled water. At this age it is not important to change back.

Sincerely,
Dr. Bear
