STERILIZATION

Dear Dr.Bear,

When, if ever, can I stop sterilizing water for formula? I’m on city water and didn’t know if I will always have to sterilize it.

Sincerely,
Sterile Water

Dear Sterile Water,

If you are boiling water and sterilizing bottles it can be stopped at 3 months of age. It is not thought that dishwashers can clean bottles well, and you can boil a large bottle of water and keep in the refridgerator to make formula from powder of concentrated liquid. Check with your pediatrician for details.

Sincerely,
Dr. Bear
