HELPFUL HINTS

Why Wait?

At the Pediatric Group, we know your time is valuable and goal is to see every patient at the scheduled appointment time. Children, however, are unpredictable, and don't always get sick or injured according to our or their parents' schedules! Because we want to help families especially when they need us most, we sometimes divert our attention to attend a child with an urgent medical situation, or to a new fragile newborn in distress. While we regret such events may increase your wait in the office, we trust you understand well the nature of caring for children. We build time into our schedules to account for the unpredictable nature of birth, accidents and illness, but nature does not always cooperate. At times like these, we appreciate your understanding and patience, knowing that you would like your child to receive the same special care if you were in a similar situation.

HELPFUL HINTS TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR WAIT!

Have fun! Our Fun Coordinator does art activities with kids in several of our waiting rooms. You can visit the Kids Corner to learn more, and don't forget to check out Art Gallery to see what our creative patients have made.

Come early! We know it's not easy to juggle a clipboard and an active toddler, and that's why we suggest you arrive 15 minutes early to check in. Your child can get comfortable in the office while you give us the information we need. And don't forget to bring any forms you need to have completed so you can minimize your effort and expense.

Keep Reading! Busy lives mean less time for reading, an activity kids love! We have books in all of our waiting rooms, and encourage you to bring your own for sharing time with your child while you wait. Paperbacks are easy to tote, and children love being close to you before a visit to the doctor.

Avoid Rush Hour! Some times are busier than others in our offices. Our busiest times include late afternoons on school days, Mondays and Fridays. If you have flexibility in your schedule, you might want to consider scheduling your child's well visit on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday during the day or early afternoon so that there is the least likelihood of a wait.

Use Your Imagination! Being stuck in a waiting room is a great time to show how creative you are. For small children, counting games (How many chairs can you count in this room?) and color questions, (I see something red. Can you find something blue?) are a fun way to pass the time. For older children, it's a great time to talk with parents away from the daily grind. Ask your ten year old where he would travel if he could go anywhere or your thirteen year old what kind of robot she'd want if she could have one. Kids love to share their opinions and creative ideas, and you might be surprised by their answers!
