BABY'S FIRST COLD
Dear Dr.Bear,
My 51/2 month old baby is going through his first cold. He hasn’t had a fever, hasn’t lost his appetite and is playing normal. The only thing making miserable is his stuffy nose. He can’t sleep well or be be breastfed. I’ve been apply saline solution but that doesn’t seem to be helping. Any suggestions?
Sincerely,
Feeling Lousy
Dear Feeling Lousy,
These first colds make you feel terrible, because your baby can suffer to eat and breath. Try to get neosynephrine nose drops 1/4%--use one drop each nostril 2-3 times per day before putting in saline and suctioning -- after 5 days take a 3 days break..no addiction problems that way. The will help open a passage way to allow the saline to flush mucus down the back of the throat or be more available for suctioning. Be liberal with the saline, mix your own. 1/2 teaspoon salt in 8oz. of water, keep in the refrigerator til used. Good luck - be sure to check in with your doctor if not getting better.
Sincerely,
Dr. Bear
